Durga Puja is celebrated entire Bihar and all over the country but people from all over the country come to participate in Durga Puja of Munger. The main reason for this is Munger’s “Shree Shree 108 Badi Durga Maharani Mata”. The very special feature of the Badi Durga Maa idol is that every year the face of the Maa becomes the same but the facial expressions change time to time during day 1 to last day of Durga puja. Initially the face of the Badi Maa who appears to be gentle and beautiful, transform Raudra Rup coming up to Vijayadashami.

Badi Durga Maa Preparation

The preparation of immersion of the Badi Durga Munger idol starts from the night of Vijayadashami at 9 o’clock. Vehicles are brought for immersion of the Durga Maa idol at all other places, but the statue of the Badi Durga Maa, whose temple situated at Shadipur is given a shoulder-lift and bid farewell by 32 kahars. The idol here is not immersion but farewell. At the time of farewell face of Badi Durga Maa changes again and the face of the other goddesses changes too. The entire Mungerwasi become inconsolable at the time of farewell of Badi Durga Maharani Maa.

It is said that once the statue of the Badi Durga Munger farewell was trying to do on the vehicle instead of Kahars then Badi Maa statue became sturdy and was not moved even single inch.
